The Land Transports Authority (LTA) has extended its free disposal scheme for non-compliant motorised personal mobility devices (PMDs) by three months, from end of March to 1 July this year.

Announcing the move in a post on its Facebook page on Monday (30 March), LTA said that PMDs which are not certified to the UL2272 safety standard will be banned from use on cycling paths from 1 July.

Only devices which have undergone accredited electrical, mechanical and environmental testing will be certified as UL2272-compliant.

Owners can dispose their devices at no cost at designated disposal points set up by LTA-appointed e-waste recyclers across HDB estates or at LTA’s Sin Ming office.

The list of disposal points are on LTA’s official website. LTA advises owners to discard their devices only at these disposal points, for safety reasons.
