Malaysia logs drop in Covid-19 cases to 6,709 on first day state borders reopen

The health ministry reported 6,709 new Covid-19 cases today, raising the cumulative tally to 2,346,303 since the pandemic began.

However, the latest figures also continue the downward trend, marking the ninth day straight where infections are below the 10,000 mark.

“From the 6,709 cases reported today, 144 (2.1 per cent) are cases classified as categories 3, 4 and 5.

“The remaining numbers 6,565 (97.9 per cent) are from category-1 and 2,” said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Another 10,833 made recovery today, bringing the accumulative recovered cases to 2,206,502, said Dr Noor Hisham.

Patients who needed to be treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) were at 762 where 398 needed breathing assistance.

For updates on infection clusters, nine new clusters were detected today, while 4,803 clusters have ended their transmission period.

“There are 794 active clusters, bringing the total cumulative clusters to 5,597,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

According to Dr Noor Hisham, new infection clusters were detected from communities, workplaces, high-risk groups and the education sector.
