Malaysia reports highest daily COVID-19 death toll, total deaths pass 7,000-mark

Malaysia recorded a fresh high of 153 single-day death toll from COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the total deaths to 7,019, according to the health ministry.

Health Ministry director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that another 10,710 new COVID-19 infections were reported, of which 12 are imported and 10,698 are local transmissions, bringing the national total to 916,561.

A total of 5,778 patients were released after recovery in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 784,949 or 85.6 percent of all cases.

Of the remaining 124,593 active cases, 909 cases are being held in intensive care units and 445 of those are in need of assisted breathing.
