Malaysia and Russia have outlined an intention to enhance defence industrial collaboration in support of defence trade.

The Malaysian Ministry of Defence (MoD) said the move was highlighted as a priority in meetings held in Kuala Lumpur in late August between Malaysian defence minister Mohamad Sabu and Nikolai Patrushev, the secretary of the Russian National Security Council.

The MoD said it was Malaysia’s “desire to enhance defence industry cooperation through smart partnerships, joint ventures, and strategic business alliances” between Malaysian and Russian defence companies.

The MoD added that the two countries will also look to deepen information sharing on issues including cyber defence, national security, and anti-terrorism.
