A Malaysian man believed to be connected to the murder of a 54-year-old woman at the Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal has been arrested.

A statement by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) on Tuesday (21 December) said that the 23-year-old man was arrested in Malaysia on 18 December following a warrant of arrest issued by the State Courts in Singapore.

The suspect was subsequently handed over by the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) to their Singapore counterparts on the evening of 19 December.

The director of the Criminal Investigation Department (Covering), Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Sekher Warrier, said that the SPF thanked RMP for their support.

“The SPF will continue to work closely with our foreign law enforcement partners to bring such fugitives home to face justice,” he said.

The victim was found dead in a drain near the terminal on 25 November and the case was classified as murder. The victim, who reportedly worked as a cleaner in the terminal, had injuries on her neck and bruises to her stomach.

The suspect will be charged in Court on Wednesday (21 December) with murder. If found guilty he faces the death penalty.
