Malaysia reported another 3,170 Covid-19 infections today, remaining in the upper range of its new daily cases but notably lower than yesterday’s 4,008.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham disclosed, however, that the country has lost 12 more people to the disease, pushing the overall death toll to 642.

Kuala Lumpur overtook Selangor in terms of new cases reported, with the federal territory registering 576 cases versus the latter’s 545.

“There are currently 41,755 active cases, and 172,549 cumulative cases in the country,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

Today’s fatalities were all Malaysians, aged between 47 and 84. Four of them died in Johor, three in Selangor and two in Sabah. Negri Sembilan, Perak and Sarawak reported one death each.

The total number of people who have died in Malaysia from the disease is now 642, or 0.37 per cent of total cases.

The ministry also revealed that 2,490 people fully recovered from the disease in the past day.

It also noted that 260 patients are currently warded in intensive care units (ICUs), with 103 of them needing respiratory assistance.
