Malaysia’s new Covid-19 cases inch up to 5,755

The health ministry today reported 5,755 new Covid-19 infections, continuing a trend of daily new cases above 5,000 in recent days.

Yesterday’s new cases numbered 5,594 while on Monday, it was 4,885 cases.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah posted this update on his Twitter account.

Cumulatively, there have been 2,602,835 cases in the country since the pandemic began last year.

“Out of 5,755 cases, 23 are import cases (15 Malaysians and eight non-Malaysians).

Out of the new cases detected today, 101 are under Category 3, 4 and 5; while 5,654 are under Category 1 and 2.

Dr Noor Hisham also gave an update on patients who are currently treated in the intensive care unit (506) with 426 confirmed Covid-19 cases while 80 are suspected cases and persons under surveillance.

“A total of 270 are in need of breathing aid (158 confirmed, 112 suspected and persons under surveillance),” he said.

As for updates on clusters, eight new infection clusters were detected today.

This brings the cumulative clusters to 5,906, with 5,672 clusters that have ended their infection period.

“There are 231 active clusters at the moment,” he added.
