Barisan Nasional Chair Datuk Seri Najib Razak today said DAP’s “cut-throat” move to contest directly against MCA and Gerakan party leadership would be detrimental to the Chinese community.

Najib said the only reason DAP is confident with the move is because they believe that an overwhelming number of Malay voters would go against the government.

“DAP’s strategy to contest against MCA and Gerakan national leaders is a huge mistake if the Chinese community were to believe what DAP is saying… that the strategy is based on the underlying hypothesis that there will be a Malay tsunami.

“I can assure you that after going around the country, there will not be a Malay tsunami,” he said at the launch of Kuen Cheng High School campus redevelopment opening ceremony today.

“That strategy, if it works would only be to the detriment of the Chinese community because we need strong Chinese representation in the government,” he added.

Najib said that although the population of the Chinese in Malaysia is 23 per cent, there is only 6 per cent of Chinese members of parliament that support the government.

“That, however, is not sustainable,” he said, citing that the government through MCA and Gerakan have always pushed for the betterment of the Chinese community.

Earlier, relating the success of Kuen Cheng High School which have gone through five phases of redevelopment since 2003, costing a total of RM100 million garnered from philanthropic and government support, Najib said this would not be possible if the government did not provide a stable and safe environment for businesses to grow.

“We have achieved a consistent growth over the past 9 years. This is due to the prudent stewardship of the government as we have successfully delivered change, transformation, peace and stability.”

Najib added that for business to succeed, they need to avoid unnecessary risk, citing that BN has consistently provided peace and stability.
