New Covid-19 cases up to 1,739 today, Selangor tops chart

Malaysia’s Covid-19 cases rose to 1,739 cases today from over 1,510 cases yesterday.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor recorded the highest number of infections with 535 cases, followed by Sarawak at 443 and Sabah at 127.

“Today, Selangor recorded the highest number of daily cases at 535 (30.8 per cent). From this figure, 441 (82.4 per cent) are from ongoing clusters and close contact screenings conducted on site,” Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement.

All but the state of Perlis recorded positive Covid-19 cases, starting with Kuala Lumpur (96), Kelantan (98), Penang (113), Johor (67), Kedah (40), Perak (50), Terengganu (34), Negri Sembilan (40), Pahang (22), Putrajaya (11), Melaka (59) and Labuan (four).

The cumulative cases now stand at 360,856 nationwide.

Of the 1,739 cases recorded, only eight cases were imported while the remaining 1,731 comprised locally infected cases.

A total of 1,216 recoveries were recorded as well today, while eight new fatalities due to Covid-19 were reported.

As of today, a total of 15,574 are active cases or still undergoing treatment for Covid-19, with 183 patients in the intensive care unit, including 81 requiring respiratory support.

The health ministry also reported eight new clusters today five involving workplaces and three involving community transmissions which brings up to a total of 1,459 Covid-19 clusters recorded so far in Malaysia.

The workplace clusters were detected in Sarawak, Selangor and Kelantan while community transmissions were detected in Sarawak and Sabah.
