Philippine Navy revives ASW capabilities with commissioning of ex-Korean corvette

* The Philippine Navy is reviving a long-absent ability to hunt submarines with the commissioning of an ex-South Korean corvette

* The vessel will build up anti-submarine competencies and transition the service over to its new Jose Risal-class frigates

The Philippine Navy has revived a long-absent anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capability with the commissioning of ex-Republic of Korea Navy (RoKN) Po Hang-class corvette, BRP Conrado Yap.

This is the capability that the service last had on its Risal (Auk)-class and PCE 827-class corvettes, the bulk of which were transferred from the United States to the Philippines in the 1960s and 1970s.
