A plan in the Philippines to establish a defence industrial zone is moving forward but remains subject to presidential approval, Department of National Defense (DND) spokesperson Arsenio Andolong said on 6 July.

In comments published by the state-run Philippine News Agency, Andolong said the plan is being evaluated by the ammunitions and firearms manufacturer, government Arsenal, but that the project requires endorsement from President Rodrigo Duterte.

“The government Arsenal is now studying this proposal,” he said. “There are now some presentations but we still have to submit this to the president as he is the only one authorised to [approve the project].”
