The Philippine National Police (PNP) has reported that as of September 8, 118 convicts who were freed under the good conduct time allowance (GCTA) law have surrendered to the authorities.

Among the surrenderers include Ariel Balansag and Alberto Cano, the two convicts in the Chiong sisters’ rape-slay case.

In a text message, Department of Justice Usec. Markk Parete said the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) continues to receive reports from PNP Regional Offices about surrendering convicts.

Parete also said none of the released convicts has left the country.

“Preliminary report from the BI indicates none of the persons deprived of liberty prematurely released on account of the good conduct time allowance and included in the list submitted by the Bureau of Corrections has left the country,” he said.

President Rodrigo Duterte has called for the surrender of 1,914 heinous crime convicts freed under the GCTA law within 15 days.
