A Chinese national fashion design student drew flak on social media for throwing taho or beancurd pudding at a cop on duty inside the MRT station on Saturday morning (February 9).

Chinese Zhang Jaile seemed to have thrown a tantrum when PO1 William Cristobal barred her from entering the station and asked her to finish her food before she could do so.

It has been a policy in all stations of the Metro Rail Transit system to ban eating and drinking particularly inside the train.

Zhang was arrested right away and brought to Mandaluyong police station. She was charged with direct assault and disobedience to person in authority.

“It was my fault. I just got angry,” Zhang said.

In reaction to the incident, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Locsin downplayed the taho-throwing incident and called it a “non-issue trying to be one” as “it could happen anywhere”.

But National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Guillermo Eleazar is determined to call for Zhang’s deportation for disrespecting a person in authority.

“We can recommend for her to consider as undesirable alien so that the Bureau of Immigration will process this maging basehan iyan kung i-deport iyan”, Eleazar said.

Eleazar said such action is unacceptable especially towards an officer who was just doing his job.

The NCRPO director calls for the public’s patience and understanding over the stricter policies they are enforcing in train stations as it is for their safety and protection.
