Many tour operators and hotels in HCM City are offering a series of preferential and promotional programmes to attract more local visitors for the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday, Tet.

Predicting that it is not until the second or third quarter of 2021 that foreign tours could resume, local tourism firms are focusing on the domestic tourism segment and looking forward to serving local visitors for the upcoming holiday, said Do Van Thuc, deputy director of Dat Viet Tour.

As the number of travellers to HCM City for the long holiday is expected to rise sharply, Majestic Hotel has introduced numerous promotional programmes to attract guests, Nguyen Huu Nang Phuong, director of sales and marketing at the hotel, told Lao Dong Online. The hotel will organise a buffet programme on New Year’s Eve with a preferential price starting from VND2.5 million per adult, Nang added.

Saigontourist has announced a programme selling room vouchers priced at a mere VND899,000 per room per night at five-star hotels such as Majestic, Rex and Grand for two persons.

To diversify tourism products for the Tet holiday and attract more customers, Dat Viet Tour is offering pilgrimage tours to various famous pagodas in the northern region, said Thuc of Dat Viet Tour.

Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, director of the HCM City Department of Tourism, said that the department was cooperating with the relevant units to adopt the best solution to welcome tourists for the upcoming holiday, while following Covid-19 prevention and control guidelines.

The municipal department expects Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, to continue to be controlled well so that the tourism sector can witness a boom for the holiday. The department also targets to welcome 33 million tourists and earn revenue of over VND100 trillion in 2021.
