Prudential Vietnam Assurance Private Ltd and the National Fund for Vietnamese Children joined hands once again to provide eye checks for thousands of students at six primary schools in Hanoi and Hai Phong as part of the ‘Anh Mat Tre Tho’ (For Children’s Eyes) programme.

Nearly 7,000 students were given free check-ups in mid-October, and opticians were on hand to advise on course of action in case defects were detected.

They also sought to raise awareness of general eye care practices, eye-related disease classification and protective measures.

Comic books, eye testing charts, billboards, and leaflets with clear illustrations were also distributed to the six schools.

“We hope these lively eye-catching images and charming cartoon characters will convey key messages in an easy way so that the children will be able to nurture their own eyes as well as spread the message to their peers,” Nguyen Thi Hien, deputy director of NFVC, said.

This year’s programme began in September when around 200 teachers and medical staff at the six primary schools received training for them to monitor and protect students’ eye health.

They were also taught best practices for classroom activities to protect pupils’ eye health and maintain eye healthcare habits.

The students’ parents will also receive essential materials related to children’s eye healthcare.

Phuong Tien Minh, CEO of Prudential Vietnam, said: “We have implemented numerous initiatives nation-wide, such as building schools, funding scholarships, promoting financial literacy education, and raising awareness of road safety. We are extremely proud to have accompanied NFVC in running the Anh Mat Tre Tho programme for eight years as we are wholeheartedly committed to shaping a better future for Vietnamese children, which includes protecting their eye health today for a brighter tomorrow.”
