The finance ministry has confirmed Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin as CEO of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB). He had been acting in that position for the last six months.

His three-year tenure as CEO begins today after his appointment received the approval from prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Raja Azmi had served as MAHB acting chief executive since June 2018. He joined the organisation in February 2016 as its chief financial officer.

He was the executive director of UDA Holdings Berhad, CEO and managing director of Zelan Berhad, group chief financial director of UEM Group Berhad and the executive director of Time Engineering Berhad.

The qualified accountant also served as the chief financial officer in Tronoh Consolidated Malaysia Berhad.

Raja Azmi holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Bath, United Kingdom, and had been part of Sapura Telecommunications Berhad, Malaysian Tobacco Company Berhad and Coopers & Lybrand Malaysia, where he began his career in 1987.

“His appointment is timely and in line with the needs of the company, which is experiencing an obvious increase in airport users around the country,” said Finance minister Lim Guan Eng.

“This appointment is also in line with MAHB’s aspirations to make the country’s airports the choice airport of airlines and tourists in the region amid stiff competition.”

Lim said he was confident Raja Azmi was capable of ensuring the efficiency of MAHB’s management and operations would be continued and improved.

It was previously reported that Raja Azmi was overseeing MAHB’s discussions with Putrajaya for a new operating agreement.

He has also placed a strong emphasis on instilling a culture of service at its airports.

Under him, the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and the neighbouring klia2, collectively known as KUL, have passed with flying colours two service quality audits by the Malaysian Aviation Commission. The audits measured passenger and user experience for stakeholders.
