More than 3,000 Russian tourists are expected to travel to the central coastal city of Danang by air a month from March next year. Their average length of stay at coastal hotels and resorts will be some 10 days, officials said.

Danang is currently a popular destination for Russian tourists seeking a relaxing holiday of sunbathing on the beach, in addition to the central cities of Nha Trang and Phan Thiet, said a representative of travel firm Anex, which specialises in bringing Russian tourists to Vietnam, at an event in the city on August 20 to announce upcoming Danang-Russia charter flights.

Between March and September next year, one charter flight will carry tourists from one of five Russian provinces to Danang every 10 days.

The tour firm will consider arranging further flights to bring tourists to Danang City in the wintertime, from November to March, when the weather in the city is pleasant.

The Anex representative added that Russian tourists will remain in the city for 10 days or more. They prefer dining out, shopping and using spa services, which will allow the city to generate more revenue from tourist activities.

Besides this, the development of residential facilities has attracted Russian tourists to Danang, according to Cao Tri Dung, chair of the Danang Travel Association.

Compared with five years ago when the number of Russian visitors to the city started to decline after two years of launching charter flights between Russia and Danang, the city is now home to many hotels that can serve Russian tourists who wish to stay for multiple days. Dung added that 95 percent of Russian tourists to Vietnam over the years have stayed in three- to five-star resorts.

Nguyen Xuan Binh, deputy director of the municipal Department of Tourism, also pointed out that the city has a wide selection of services and residences to serve long-stay tourists.

To connect with more accommodation facilities to serve Russians, Anex, on August 29, will work with representatives of hotels and tourism service providers at an exhibition and conference on solutions to develop the city’s tourism sector.
