The Korea Tourism Organisation (KTO) will organise a week-long tourism event next month to welcome Vietnamese tourists to South Korea.

The event, named “Korea Welcome You! 2019 Vietnam Welcome Week,” will take place from September 2 to 8. Many activities have been arranged, including welcoming Vietnamese visitors at airports, providing travel information in Vietnamese at special counters at the Incheon international airport, presenting gifts to tourists and offering discount coupons of up to 40 percent, according to KTO Vietnam.

High-ranking representatives of the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; relevant agencies; and Korean artists will welcome the first Vietnamese tour group at the Incheon airport on September 2 and at the Gimhae airport on the following day.

Moreover, independent travellers and tour groups who have booked tours through travel firms participating in KTO’s summer campaign will receive gifts from KTO.

Park Jong Sun, head of KTO Vietnam, said that Vietnam is one of the target markets of the South Korean tourism sector’s New Southern Policy. The number of Vietnamese visitors to South Korea is expected to surge in the years to come, he said.

Over the past five years, the number of Vietnamese tourist arrivals in South Korea rose by a staggering 34 percent per year on average. The country has welcomed an estimated 370,000 Vietnamese this year to date, rising 25 percent against last year.
