SAB takes VN Index down

VN Index the only main index to lose ground on December 19 as SAB ends nine days of increases.

SAB ended nine days of increases and VNM closed slightly down, together resulting in the VN Index losing 0.83 points (0.12 per cent). Its partner index on HSX, the VN30-Index, rose 2.81 points (0.45 per cent), while on HNX the HNX-Index increased 0.23 points (0.28 per cent) and the HNX30-Index 0.86 points (0.6 per cent).

The VNAll-Index closed up 3.77 points (0.4 per cent), the UPCoM Index 0.30 points (0.53 per cent), the VNMid Index 3.08 points (0.38 per cent), and VNSml 3.55 points (0.47 per cent).

HSX saw 154 shares increase and 82 decrease while HNX saw 118 increase and 95 decrease.

Liquidity on HNX was VND326.12 billion ($14.32 million), 3 per cent lower than last Friday, and on HSX was VND2.13 trillion ($93.6 million), down 24 per cent.

The VN Index opened at 675.16 points and increased to 679.9 at the beginning of the morning session before slipping back to 675.2 points mid-session. It continued downwards in the afternoon, to its bottom of the day of 674 points, before edging upwards and closing the day at 674.33 points.

The highest and second highest caps on HSX, VNM and SAB, both lost ground, by 0.8 per cent on trade of VND186 billion ($8.17 million) and 5.8 per cent on VND136 billion ($5.97 million), respectively. Other food and beverage stocks also lost ground: MSN by 2.3 per cent, VHC 1.3 per cent, and KDC 0.9 per cent. SBT was the only one to increase, by 2 per cent.

Conversely, ROS rose 1.4 per cent on trade of VND45.83 billion ($2.01 million), the highest on HSX today.

MWG surprised investors with trade of some VND211 billion ($9.27 million), the second highest on HSX, but shed 1.6 per cent.

Two steel shares – HPG and HSG – saw high trade, of VND34 billion ($1.5 million) and VND9.63 billion ($421,820), respectively, with HPG falling 0.7 per cent and HSG closing at its opening price.

Most banking shares closed higher: STB by 2.7 per cent, CTG 2 per cent, VCB 0.1 per cent, and MBB 0.8 per cent, while EIB closed at its opening price.

In energy, PGD rose 6.9 per cent, GAS 1.1 per cent, and PVT 1.3 per cent.

Among large caps on HSX, VIC, FPT and BVH increased 0.7 per cent, 1.4 per cent, and 4.6 per cent, respectively.

Among large caps on HNX, VCG closed 2.9 per cent higher, PNI 2.1 per cent, and VCS 1.5 per cent, while ACB lost 1.2 per cent.

Foreign investors net sold on HSX by VND5.98 billion ($262,761) and on HNX by VND3.37 billion ($148,077).
