HCM City has put into operation the socioeconomic simulation and forecast centre at the HCM City Development Research Institute.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony on August 1, Truong Thi Mai Huong, deputy head of the institute, said that in the initial phase, the centre will launch research and collect information to build a database for social and economic prediction models. The centre is expected to systematise models of various social and economic indicators to serve socioeconomic predictions for the city.

Underscoring the importance of the centre in the city, HCM City Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Thien Nhan stated that as the city is one of the country’s most dynamic and largest economic driving forces, the launch of the centre is aimed at helping policymakers to avoid errors that hinder the city’s economic growth.

Nhan also expected the centre to simulate and forecast the city’s economic developments for 2020 by this October.

Accurate predictions of socioeconomic developments and movements will help address pressing issues such as flooding and traffic jams in HCM City, Nhan said, adding that they also strengthen investors’ trust.
