Some 70,000 people receive unemployment benefits in HCM City in H1

Some 70,000 people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in HCM City have received unemployment allowances in the first half of 2020, the HCM City Statistics Department announced today, June 30.

According to Vo Thanh Sang, vice head of the department, the people who received unemployment benefits comprise workers suspended from work, teachers and staff of private kindergartens fired during the pandemic, self-employed workers who have lost their jobs and lottery ticket sellers.

As of June 20, 2020, there were more than 8,300 enterprises that shut down in the city, up 40.6 percent compared with the same period last year.

Approximately 82,000 workers have visited the city’s Employment Services centre to seek unemployment benefits in the first half of 2020.

Sang said the city will continue supporting workers affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and more people will receive unemployment benefits in the future.
