Sun Group broke ground on an ecotourism and leisure complex worth up to VND25 trillion (over $1 billion) in the north-central province of Thanh Hoa on October 26.

The complex will cover 550 hectares in Sam Son City, comprising a seafront square, a leisure park and a residential area.

The Sam Son seafront square will consist of a pedestrian zone, monuments, fountains and green spaces and will be capable of receiving 10,000 people at a time. It is expected to become a venue for large festivals and cultural and sporting events.

The Nam Song Ma leisure park will cover more than 130 hectares with a variety of exciting games and activities to serve the increasing demand for leisure and recreation from the over 3.6 million people of Thanh Hoa Province and attract more tourists to the province.

The complex will also comprise the Sam Son seafront square urban area and the Do River ecotourism area.

Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony, Thanh Hoa Province vice chair Mai Xuan Liem said the complex is a key tourism and urban development project of the province, which will improve Sam Son City’s infrastructure and help tourism become the city’s key industry, contributing to making Sam Son one of the country’s major tourist attractions.

Liem asked the local authorities to support and create favourable conditions for the project, especially in terms of site clearance and construction of the resettlement area.

Dang Minh Truong, chair of Sun Group, said the project will attract more international tourists to the coastal city of Sam Son, encourage more local and foreign investors to invest in the city, create jobs and improve the quality of life for the locals and contribute to the socioeconomic development of Sam Son City and Thanh Hoa Province as a whole.

Sun Group also plans to develop other projects in Thanh Hoa to help the province become one of the four economic and tourism hubs in the northern and north central regions, alongside Hanoi, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh.

They include the 1,500-hectare Southeast Thanh Hoa urban area, the 100-hectare Quang Xuong hot spring area, the 6,000-hectare Dong Son industrial park and urban area and the 1,500-hectare Ben En ecotourism area.
