Many supermarkets across the country have launched large-scale promotional and discount programmes on Tet goods as the 2020 traditional Lunar New Year holiday will come early, the local media reported.

Discounts of up to 50 percent on a wide range of products have been launched to ease shopping pressure as Tet 2020 draws nearer.

Saigon Co.op retail chains, including Co.opmart, Co.opXtra, Co.op Food, Co.opSmile, Cheers, HTVCo.op and Sense City, have been running promotional programmes since late November.

A representative of Saigon Co.op told Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper that its plan to offer discounts was intended to prevent a possible increase in the prices of goods during Tet.

At Saigon Co.op’s supermarkets, customers are enjoying discounts of up to 50 percent on home appliances, textiles and cosmetics from now until December 11. The prices of other goods have edged down 10%-25%.

Customers should buy these items as soon as possible to avoid price hikes during the Tet holiday, the representative said.

Nguyen Anh Duc, deputy director of Saigon Co.op, noted that the firm plans to increase its inventory of goods, mainly fresh food, staple items and special Tet goods, by 15%-40 percent versus last year to ensure sufficient supplies during the months around the Tet holiday.

Apart from its purchase of 3,500 tonnes of safe pork to serve customers during Tet, Saigon Co.op’s supermarkets are preparing large volumes of beef, chicken and seafood to ensure the stabilisation of prices and diversify shoppers’ options.

Besides this, a variety of products from prestigious brands, such as Happy Cook, Lock&Lock, Duy Tan, Sunhouse, Tithafac, Toshiba, Bluestar and Comet, are being sold at discounted prices at Saigon Co.op supermarkets.

The Big C supermarket chain has also jumped onto the discount programme bandwagon for the Tet holiday, offering discounts of up to 49 percent from December 3 to January 24, 2020, on confections and fruit jams. Big C will also keep the prices of over 10,000 products unchanged during the six weeks preceding Tet.

Domestic meat processor Vissan stated that the firm will launch a 10%-20 percent discount programme on processed products in the weeks leading up to Tet. From December 27 to 30, Vissan will offer discounts of 5%-10 percent on fresh produce.

The convenience store chain Bach Hoa Xanh also told Tuoi Tre that the total number of Tet goods available this month will be adjusted by 50 percent versus last month. Between January 3 and 25, Bach Hoa Xanh will offer a “buy one get one free” programme and give gifts to customers.
