TAIWAN JOBLESS RATE RISES IN APRIL WHILE EMPLOYMENT DECREASES SLIGHTLY

The seasonally-adjusted jobless rate in Taiwan stood at 4.10 percent in April 2020, up from 3.73 percent in April 2019, according to data from the directorate general of Budget Accounting and Statistics.

Taiwan did not institute a lockdown as the impact of Covid-19 on the country was not as damaging and it has kept its infection rates below that of most countries.

Total employment in Taiwan in April decreased by 13,000 (-0.12%) when compared with that of the previous year.

Compared to the previous year, employment in agriculture and the goods-producing sector decreased by 17,000 (-3.01%) and 11,000 (-0.28%) in April, respectively; the services-providing sector increased by 15,000(+0.22%).

Taiwan’s labour force participation rate was 59.06 percent in April, the same from that of the previous year.
