An annual security dialogue between experts from Taiwan, the United States and Japan took place December 14 in Taipei, Taiwan Today and The China Post reported. The seminar was organised by Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs along with the Prospect Foundation, the centre for a New American Security and Japan’s Institute for Policy Studies. Talks focused on cooperation on non-traditional security, East Asia maritime security and Asia-Pacific regional economic integration, among other things. The event came nearly two weeks after a phone call between US President-elect Donald Trump and Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen brought the issue of Taiwan’s political status to the fore in a way that is sure to drive deep policy debates in the United States.
