Taiwan’s Formosa Petrochemical Corp may shut port as typhoon Talim approaches, though it is waiting for a government directive, a company spokesman says

“We will shut the harbour and let vessels finish loading and let them out,” he says

Formosa has no plans to reduce the run rates or close any units at its Mailiao refinery as it is designed to withstand typhoons, spokesman says

Taiwan will likely issue a sea warning later on Tuesday and a land warning on Wednesday

Typhoon Talim is expected to hit north and northeast parts of Taiwan hardest Wednesday into Thursday, with heavy rains and strong winds with a maximum wind speed of 33m/s, and radius of 15m/s 180km, according to Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau.

Most of Taiwan’s refineries are in the central and southern regions (see interactive map in ‘Related Content’ section)
