Thailand’s prime minister and Defense minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Wednesday presided over the closing ceremony for a naval rescue exercise off the country’s eastern shores.

In his capacity as director of the Thai Maritime Enforcement Command Centre, the organiser of the naval exercise, Prayut thanked navy personnel, government officials, business entrepreneurs and local villagers for participating in the three-day drill in the sea and coastal area off Map Ta Phut industrial port in Rayong province.

The exercise, in which navy ships and helicopters took part, was conducted to assure the Thai Maritime Enforcement Command Centre’s preparedness to rescue victims of natural disasters and human trafficking as well as tourists having troubles in the sea.

It was ceremonially closed with the prime minister on board HTMS Angthong, the centre’s flagship.
