Typhoon Neoguri, Tropical Storm Bualoi not expected to affect Taiwan

Two Pacific stormsTyphoon Neoguri and Severe Tropical Storm Bualoiare expected to move towards Japan and are not expected to directly affect Taiwan, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

As of 8 a.m. Sunday, Typhoon Neoguri was centered 760 km east-northeast of Taiwan’s southernmost tip Eluanbi, moving at a speed of 16 kph in a north-northeasterly direction.

The typhoon is projected to move towards Japan, and will start weakening after reaching southern Japanese waters, according to CWB predictions.

At the same time, Severe Tropical Storm Bualoi has developed and was located 3,480 km east-southeast of Eluanbi as of 8 a.m., moving at a speed of 18 kph in a west-northwesterly direction. It is also expected to move towards Japan, the CWB forecast.

Meanwhile, northeasterly winds are expected to cause sporadic showers in northern and eastern Taiwan Sunday, especially in mountainous areas and along the coast near Keelung, the weather bureau said.

Central and southern Taiwan will see mostly cloudy to sunny skies, with sporadic showers forecast in the central mountains in the afternoon, according to the CWB.

On Sunday, daytime highs would range from 25-27 degrees Celsius in northern and northeastern Taiwan, and 28-32 degrees in Hualien and Taitung in the east and central and southern areas, CWB data shows.
