Viettel Military Industry and Telecommunications Group on September 23 launched a 5G network in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, making it the eighth locality nationwide with 5G.

Tran Van Tuan, vice Chair of Ba Ria-Vung Tau People’s Committee, said 2021 marks the year that the province launches its digital transformation programme with a resolution on digital transformation. Together with this, the province announced an action plan to realise its vision to complete digital transformation and become a smart city by 2030. One of the important targets that the action plan sets out is to universalise 4G/5G by 2025, smartphones, and the internet.

With the milestone in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Viettel contributes to this roadmap to commercialise 5G services in the country.

Earlier, Viettel launched the 5G network in Hanoi, HCM City, Thu Duc City, as well as the provinces of Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Binh Phuoc, and Thua Thien-Hue. It aims to expand it to 15 cities and provinces in the near future.
