Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk) on Thursday donated 70,000 glasses of milk to 780 disadvantaged students of Quy Ky Primary School in the northern province of Thai Nguyen’s Dinh Hoa District.

The donation, worth of VND470 million (US$20,210), is part of the ‘Stand Tall Vietnam’ Milk Fund run by Vinamilk, helping disadvantaged families and families who are beneficiaries of State policies on the occasion of War Invalids’ and Martyrs’ Day, which falls on July 27.

Speaking at the event, Vinamilk Executive director in charge of Human Resources Administration and Public Relation Bui Thi Huong said Vinamilk and its fund chose Thai Nguyen for the milk to bring children joy and full nutrition.

“Through it, we call on the community’s concern for the comprehensive development of both physical and intellectual aspects of the young generation,” Huong said.

Thai Nguyen Province is a major socio-economic centre of the midland and northern mountainous region. The province has a favourable geographical position and abundant mineral resources, creating great advantages for the metallurgy and mining industry.

However, the terrain is interspersed with hilly and mountainous areas so the population is unevenly distributed, especially in the mountainous areas where many ethnic minorities such as Tay, Nung and San Diu are living. With natural disasters such as landslides, thunderstorms and cyclones, local people face many difficulties. Therefore, nutrition care, especially for local children is still limited.

“The excitement of Thai Nguyen students in general and Quy Ky Primary School in particular are the motivation for Vinamilk and the ‘Stand Tall Vietnam’ Milk Fund to continue our mission,” Huong said.

“We will make more efforts to have more children across the country benefiting from this nutritional care, for a future generation of Vietnam to reach out.”

The milk fund was established in 2008 under the management of the National Fund for Vietnamese Children. It has brought 35 million glasses of milk to provinces across the country, worth VND150 billion for 440,000 disadvantaged children across Vietnam.

Besides the milk fund, Vinamilk is currently implementing the ‘One million green trees for Vietnam fund’. In seven years it has planted nearly 700,000 trees in nearly 20 provinces with a value of nearly VND9 billion, getting closer to the target of one million trees for Vietnam.
