VN Index expands for seventh straight session

The local stock market experienced strong fluctuations today, October 19 but still expanded for the seventh straight session as the benchmark VN Index closed the day up 0.04%, or 0.39 point, to 943.69 points.

The Hochiminh Stock Exchange had 205 winning stocks and 197 losers. There were 389.5 million shares worth VND7.88 trillion changing hands on the southern market, rising by 12.15 percent in volume and 15 percent in value against the session earlier.

Bank stocks moved inversely, with BID, EIB, HDB, VCB and VPB shrinking by approximately 0.5%, while CTG, TCB and STB grew by 3.21%, 1.55 percent and 2.55 percent to VND32,150, VND23,000 and VND14,100, respectively.

Several bluechips that gained ground included property firm VIC and dairy producer VNM, which posted a slight growth, and consumer goods firm MSN, which reversed course to inch up 2.5 percent to VND82,000 at the close.

In contrast, brewery SAB, housing developer VHM and fuel firms GAS and PLX dipped into the red.

In the group of small and medium stocks, property firm HAG, industrial zone developer ITA, real estate stock HQC and construction enterprise DIG extended, while financial investment group OGC, food enterprise GTN, industrial firm HHS, real estate stock DLG and seafood group ASM lost ground.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index expanded by 0.76%, or 1.06 points versus the previous session to close the day at 140.88 points, with the number of winning and losing stocks being equal at 76. There were 47.3 million shares worth VND740.24 billion traded.

Lender ACB was the biggest gainer, up 2,43 percent to VND25,300. ACB was also the most actively traded stock on the northern market, with 14.15 million shares changing hands. In contrast, some other bank stocks such as NVB and SHB declined by 1.1 percent and 1.2%, respectively.

Among the large-cap stocks, petroleum stock PVB fell by 6.17 percent to VND15,200, while service company THD increased by 1.4 percent to VND86,000.
