VN-Index hits 675 points

Strong increases on all indexes from impressive liquidity on December 16.

With strong support from the food and beverage sector the VN-Index increased 9.24 points (1.39 per cent) on December 16 and the VN-30 Index 7.79 points (1.27 per cent) on HSX while on HNX the HNX-Index rose 0.86 points (1.09 per cent) and the HNX30-Index 2.19 points (1.55 per cent).

The VNAll-Index closed up 11.1 points (1.19 per cent), the UPCoM Index 0.05 points (0.09 per cent), and the VNMid Index 10.85 points (1.37 per cent). The VNSml fell 2.2 points (0.29 per cent).

HSX saw 136 shares increase and 97 decrease while HNX saw 136 increase and 111 decrease.

Liquidity on HNX was VND333 billion ($14.63 million), 5.6 per cent lower than yesterday, and on HSX was VND2.8 trillion ($123.08 million), 44 per cent higher.

The VN-Index opened at 657. 4 points and rose to 671 points after the pre-opening session. It then fluctuated over the course of most of the day before rising sharply in the last few minutes to close the day at 675.16 points.

VNM impressed investors, closing 1.8 per cent higher on trade of some VND217 billion ($9.53 million). SAB strengthened its position as the second largest cap on HSX, increasing 6.4 per cent to reach VND144 trillion ($6.33 billion) in market capitalization. Other stocks in food and beverages saw strong rises: KDC by 5.4 per cent, MSN 4.7 per cent, STB 4.1 per cent and VHC 0.2 per cent.

HPG saw the highest trading value of the day, of some VND246 billion ($10.81 million), and rose 1.2 per cent in price. ROS followed, with VND236 billion ($10.37 million), and increased 1.1 per cent in price.

In banking, EIB rose 3.2 per cent, STB 2.5 per cent, CTG 1 per cent and VCB 0.3 per cent. MBB closed at its opening price while BID shed 2.3 per cent.

In energy, PGD was up 2.7 per cent, CNG closed at its opening price and GAS lost 0.3 per cent.

Among large caps on HSX, VIC gained 1.2 per cent and BVH 1 per cent while MWG lost 0.3 per cent.

On HNX, VCS increased 4.4 per cent, ACB 3 per cent, SHB 2.1 per cent and VCG 1.5 per cent. PVS closed at its opening price while PHP, PVI and NTP fell 3 per cent, 0.4 per cent and 0.1 per cent, respectively.

Foreign investors net sold on HSX by VND26 billion ($1.14 million) and net bought on HNX by VND2.2 billion ($96,712).
