VN30-Index falls as others gain ground

STB and VCB make dent in VN30-Index on otherwise positive January 4.

Only the VN30-Index lost ground as other main indexes on Vietnam’s stock market closed higher on January 4.

On HSX the VN Index increased 2.69 points (0.4 per cent) while the VN-30 Index lost 1.19 points (0.19 per cent). The VNMid-Index was up 5.2 points (0.65 per cent) and the VNSml-Index was down 1.75 points (0.23 per cent).

The HNX-Index increased 0.13 points (0.16 per cent) on HNX and the HNX30-Index 0.79 points (0.54 per cent), the UPCoM-Index 0.14 points (0.25 per cent), and the VNAll-Index 1.1 points (0.12 per cent).

HSX saw 120 shares increase and 129 decrease while HNX saw 94 increase and 117 decrease.

Liquidity on HNX was VND240 billion ($10.56 million), more or less the same as yesterday, and on HSX was VND1.8 trillion ($79.2 million), 10 per cent higher.

The VN Index opened at 672.3 points and reached its peak of the day of 675.9 points in the middle of the morning session before falling to 673.9 point then recovering and closing at 675 points. In the afternoon it hit its bottom of the day of 672.5 points mid-session before finishing the day at 674.7 points.

The VN-30 Index was down due to two large caps in banking, STB and VCB, losing 6.7 per cent and 0.6 per cent, respectively. Elsewhere in banking, MBB lost 1.1 per cent while EIB, BID and CTG increased 4.2 per cent, 1.9 per cent and 1.8 per cent, respectively.

Most large caps increased today, with VNM rising 0.2 per cent on liquidity of some VND84 billion ($3.7 million). Among other stocks in food and beverages, SAB and KDC closed at their opening price, MSN was up 1.6 per cent and SBT lost 2.3 per cent.

In energy, GAS was up 2.3 per cent, PGD down 2.6 per cent, and CNG closed at its opening price.

Among other large caps on HSX, BVH increased 1.3 per cent, VIC 1.1 per cent and MWG 0.4 per cent.

Among large caps on HNX, PVS rose 3 per cent, VCG 2.9 per cent, and ACB 0.5 per cent while PHP and SHB closed at their opening price and VCS lost 0.2 per cent.

Foreign investors net bought on HSX by VND105 billion ($4.6 million) and on HNX by VND12 billion ($528,000).
