Malaysians must give the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) a strong mandate to continue governing if they wished to see a continuation of long-term policies on environmental sustainability, said Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

The caretaker natural resources and environment minister stressed that continuity of government was crucial to achieve goals such as those set in the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) agenda.

“We will roll out a Biodiversity and Environment module for students in primary right into secondary with the cooperation of the Education Ministry in 2019, making us only the third in the region after Vietnam and the Philippines, with our version being the most formal.

“It is our hope that the people will deliver BN a strong mandate to be able to continue this and other long term sustainable plans to safeguard our natural resources and raise literacy on the environment among Malaysians to 100 per cent by 2050,” he added.

In his keynote address during the Asiawater 2018 Exposition and Forum opening ceremony at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, he also urged voters to back BN for sustainable policies on water.

The incumbent Samtubong MP also said that politicians from both sides of the divide were keen on championing water issues and urged them to refrain from politicising the issue.
