West Java footwear, fashion popular in global market: Crafts Council

The Industry and Trade Office data revealed the popularity of footwear produced in West Java in the global market, West Java Regional National Crafts Council Head Atalia Praratya stated.

“The data showed global demand for West Java’s footwear is the highest, while fashion products ranked second. We also know that footwear produced in Cibaduyut and Garut are among the most popular and in high demand in the market,” Parartya stated during a webinar held on Monday (October 11).

The demand for West Java’s fashion products largely came from the Middle East and Malaysia, she noted.

“Apart from footwear and fashion, our bags are also popular. We are currently developing cow, goat, and sheep leather and leaf-based woven bag products,” Praratya stated.

The regional craft council head stated that West Java held huge potential to develop more fashion products, especially as a province known as the trendsetter in the industry which she attributed to the residents’ understanding of global trends and creative, courageous traits.

“Those traits help West Java to become the trendsetter, as they understood the current global trends and love to experiment with different clothes, colors, and patterns,” she remarked.

West Java entrepreneurs’ effective use of social media platforms to promote their products successfully attracted more customers keen to purchase their products, she noted.

Education institutions specialised in fashion studies among West Java’s 500 higher education institutions have also contributed to the province’s success in developing its crafts industry, Praratya stated.

“Their entrepreneurial skills were developed in business schools, schools for textile industry, and fashion studies major in our vocational schools. This exhibited that our future entrepreneurs in the crafts industry have been trained since the start,” the craft council head noted.
