A general election next year is “possible”, Singapore prime minister Lee Hsien Loong told Bloomberg Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait in an interview at the New Economy Forum in Singapore. The PM said: “It’s always possible. There are many reasons to bring elections forward, so we’ll see.”

The last general election in Singapore was held on 11 September, 2015, months after the death of founding prime minister Lee Kuan Yew. Polls must be held by early 2021.
